How to Combat Edge Spam Notifications
Mason Infotech client shave been highlighting that Microsoft Edge has been spamming them with notifications regarding spam or viruses. These notifications normally tell the end user that they have a virus and they need to scan for viruses. This guide will tell you how to stop these notifications:
Occasionally, websites may have hidden permissions that allow them to manage your Microsoft Edge settings, often consented to via cookie messages. This enables the site to send notifications through Edge, which can be misleading and disruptive.
To stop these unwanted notifications, follow these steps:
- Identify the source of the notification. Look for the Microsoft Edge name and icon in the top left corner of the notification to confirm it is coming from Edge. Find the URL in the notification. They key indicator that this is spam will be that the URL doesn't match the brand the notification claims to be from.
- Document the URL. Write down the URL rather than copying.
- Adjust Edge Settings. Open a new Edge window. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner of Edge and navigate through the following path:
- Settings
- Privacy and Security
- Site Settings
- View Permissions and Data Stored Across Sites
- Locate the URL from the notification.
- Block the notifications by selecting the URL, navigating to Permissions, then Notifications, and then selecting Block.
By following these steps, you can maintain control over your Chrome notifications and ensure a smoother browsing experience for your users. If you need further assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to our managed IT support team.
