Full Fibre Infrastructure
Our involvement with the provision of ‘full fibre’ services has drastically improved the speed and quality of internet access to those businesses adopting the services we provide. Whilst many will recognise the significant difference the internet has made to all our lives to date, the real impact on our economy in the future may not be that obvious.
We are working closely with Entanet and CityFibre as they invest in Nottingham as a ‘Gigabit’ city. Last Year CityFibre commissioned Regeneris to report on the economic impact that full fibre access will have on the 100 towns and cities they are working with. They have very kindly agreed to let us publish this as a white paper. You can access the full report here.
Here are just a few highlights from the report that help portray the significance of ‘full fibre’ internet services;
- The economic impact of full fibre infrastructure has been estimated to be in the region of £120bn** across a whole range of facilities including ‘smart city’ infrastructure, worker flexibility, mobile innovation and other services.
- Copper is out and fibre is in. It’s the only way we will cope with the increase in demand. But the UK is currently way behind other countries with fibre penetration at a lowly 4%*, one of the lowest in the developed world. Spain, France and Portugal are all in excess of 75% coverage to provide a comparison.
- The Government has recognised the need for intervention and is providing support. Private investment has also now recognised the potential opportunity and is investing heavily in the provision of full fibre networks.
- ‘Industry 4’ technology is gathering pace. The Boston Consulting Group have identified eight technology drivers that are changing manufacturing. These include robotics, networked production machines, 3D printing and cloud computing.
Nottingham will be the beneficiary of £50m+ of initial private investment as a ‘Gigabit’ city and already has the largest private ‘Metro’ network in the East Midlands passing some 7000 businesses.
We’re helping our clients realise the benefits that ‘full fibre’ internet access can bring to their business. How we’ve achieved this is highlighted in our case studies.
